Jastorf has fallen and NATO troops have withdrawn across the river. Soviet troops have met some success in securing the primary roadway leading west and north from Klein Bunstorf, yet have suffered terribly in doing so. The 68th Guards Motorized Rifle Regiment has moved forward, driving further into West Germany. Other reserve formations from the division are being brought up from the rear and the penetration in the NATO line is growing wider every hour.
With time running out to restrict the movement of Soviet troops, the American 8th Infantry Division begins preparations for a limited counter-attack designed to cut the primary supply lane of advancing Soviet formations in order to threaten their advance. The chosen axis of attack is familiar ground, where battle raged only two nights prior. A night time river crossing made possible by American combat engineers enables a daring maneuver through otherwise impassable terrain where Soviet presence is lighter. Supported by ever strengthening American air superiority and artillery, troops of the 8th IDs 3rd Brigade successfully turn the flank of the Soviet menace, yet the element of surprise has been lost.
The town of Jastorf is presently occupied by elements of the 5th Independent Reconnaissance & Radio EW Battalion as well as the 21st Independent Medical-Sanitation Battalion. Both form part of the rear of the 27th Guards Motor Rifle Division. As fighting flares orders from the division come through: Delay the enemy, help is on the way.
